Could This Be The UK’s Most Expensive House?

A six-storey Regency mansion in central London has gone onto the market for a staggering sale price of £250million.

No 18 Carlton House Terrace is a Grade 1 listed property with is a stones-throw from Buckingham Palace, enjoys views of St James Park and has Fortnum & Mason as its corner shop. At 50,000sq ft. it is one of central London’s largest private homes with many original features including its own ballroom and a majestic double staircase.

It has been reportedly owned since the seventies by a member of a Middle Eastern Royal family. During that time, the owner has lavished millions of pounds on the property, restoring its original features to former glories.

Presently the record for a private house sale stands at £136million, paid for a Knightsbridge apartment in the Candy Brothers development at One Hyde Park. Should the house on Carlton House Terrace sell at this record figure, the new owner will have to pay stamp duty of a whopping £17.5million.
